Grasshopper for 3D printing – FabLab Firenze

3D printing is a revolutionary technology that is growing exponentially during the last few years invading every field of manufacturing, objects fabrication, wearing, chemistry, cooking, architecture, medicine. It is not (only) important becouse it is cool, trendy or a possible business, but becouse it is an affordable way to give shape to matter described by several layer of information.
The workshop will explore the use of the plugin Grasshopper for Rhinoceros to define algorithmical procedures aimed to express highly complex structures informed by different conditions at different scales and levels of details. We will learn by play that information is matter substance.
La stampa 3D è una tecnologia rivoluzionaria che sta evolvendo in maniera esponenziale negli ultimi anni, invandendo ogni campo dell’industria manufatturiera, produzione di oggettistica, moda, chimica, cucina, architettura, medicina. Questa non è solamente importante perchè di moda o un possibile campo di investimento, ma perchè è una maniera ormai alla portata di tutti di poter dare forma alla materia descritta da molteplici livelli di informazione.
Il workshop esplorerà l’utilizzo del plugin Grasshopper per Rhinoceros per definire processi algoritmici miranti ad esprimere strutture altamente complesse informate da differenti condizioni a differenti scale dimensionali e differenti livelli di dettaglio. Impareremo con il gioco che l’informazione è sostanza materica.

No specific Grasshopper skills are required (although an introductory knowledge of Rhinoceros is welcome).
Participants should bring their own laptop with pre-installed software.

Final project files of each participant will be collected at the end of the workshop and will be printed during the following weeks by Kentstapper.
The printed objects will be then available to be collected by each participant at the workshop venue.
